Gas prices to fall 3 to 5 pct from Jan. 1

The new prices for natural gas for the household consumers will fall by some 3 to 5 percent from January 1 compared to December, the National Natural Gas Regulatory Authority (ANRGN) announced. The new prices at Bucharest-based gas distributor SC Distrigaz Sud SA will be 881.75 lei per 1,000 cubic meters, while the prices at EON GAZ Romania will be 874.52 lei per 1,000 cubic meters, if the consumption is up to 2,400 cubic meters a year (the B1 category), the Authority said. The energy dependence grew in the European Union between 1990 and 2004 by 6%, reaching 50.5%, a Eurostat report shows. In some countries, among which Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania there is a drop in energy dependence while in countries such as the Czech Republic, Ireland, The Netherlands and Portugal the energy dependence rose considerably. The production of various types of gasoline stood in the first nine months of this year to over 3.759 million tonnes and the production of Diesel oil exceeded 3.483 million tonnes, according to information centralised by the National Statistics Institute. The production of net (processed) coal of Romania stood in the nine months to end September 2006 at 25.921 million tonnes, of which 1.996 million tonnes net pitcoal and 23.925 million tonnes lignite and brown coal. In end September, producers kept stored 145,000 tonnes of lignite and brown coal. In the first three quarters this year Romania imported coal worth 219.7 million euros, down 14.4 percent vs. 2005.
