More than 5,000 employees from the chemical industry, energy sector, livestock farms and mining, risk being made redundant because from the very first day of 2007 - that marks Romania's accession to the European Union - over 40 companies will either terminate operations because of high pollution rates, or the Romanian State will have to pay EUR 0.3 M a day in fines, i.e. over EUR 100 M in one year.
