Trade: Flower market estimated at 100 million euro in Romania this year
The flower market in Romania has an estimated value of 100 million euro for 2013, said Mugur Frunzetti, the founder of the online flower shop Floria.ro, at a specialized conference. According to estimates, the online flower market has a value of 2.5 million euro for 2013. In this market, Floria.ro registered sales of 600,000 euro in the first half of the year. For the whole year, Floria.ro estimates a business figure of over 1 million euro.
“The first half of the year was very good for us, we grew significantly compared to 2012 and had 10% more sales than estimated. In the flower business the first three months of the year are telling for the rest of the year because of important celebrations in that period – March 1 and 8, Valentine’s Day or Dragobete. So we expect to exceed one million euro in 2013,” Frunzetti said. Compared to the first half of 2012, Floria.ro increased sales by 50% in 2013.
“It is a normal evolution considering that more Romanians choose to surprise their loved ones with flower bouquets sent to their office or home,” he added.
In 2013, 50% of the estimated total of flower sales in Romania comes from the white market and 5% of that is made by online sales.
