Romania to receive 10.6 billion euros in direct payments per surface in the next seven years

The budget that was earmarked to Romania via the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for direct payments per hectare will be worth more than 10.6 billion euros in the 2014-2020 interval, which means that direct payments per hectare will reach 196 euros in 2019, from 139.17 as it was in 2013.

'Following negotiations with the new CAP, Romania managed to maintain the single surface payment scheme - SAPS until 2020 and also the Complementary National Direct Payments (PNDC) scheme, in the same conditions and for the same sectors as in 2013. Since there are discrepancies between the value of subsidies under the single surface payment scheme and the single payment scheme (SPS) in the different member states, the new CAP tries to reduce them. Thus, in Romania the direct payments per hectare from the EU budget is scheduled to reach an average of 196 euros in 2019, compared with 139.17 euros as it was in 2013, while the entire budget that was earmarked to Romania for direct payments over 2014-2020 will exceed 10.6 billion euros', the representatives of the Agency of Payments and Intervention for Agriculture (APIA) told Agerpres.

The future Common Agricultural Policy will be of a strategic importance when it comes to food safety, environment and territorial balance, and it will continue to observe the general objectives of the CAP, while also having new objectives to achieve with respect to the granting of the payments.

The new CAP will reduce discrepancies between payments received by farmers in the different EU member states, while Romania will be able to pay Complementary National Direct payments (PNCD) in th same conditions and for the same sectors as in 2013. Thus, the PNDC will remain valid until 2020, allowing farmers to benefit from additional national subsidies, showed APIA.
