Real estate: EIB backs expansion of logistic infrastructure in Romania with credit of 150 million euro

The European Investment Bank supports the expansion of logistic infrastructure in Romania by granting a loan of 150 million euro to Warehouse De Pauw (WDP) company, for the construction of 43 warehouses throughout Romania, EIB shows in a press release.

New warehouse deposits will be rented on a long term, accent being laid on establishing new logistic operations or in the light industry and will be located on the five key national corridors identified in Romania’s General Transport Master Plan. These projects will include infrastructure for modern warehouses and will be developed on a durable base.

This project will generate 3,700 new jobs in the period of construction works and 750 after the completion of the construction and will contribute to economic diversification in Romania’s regions which are facing structural modifications, according to EIB president Andrew McDowell.

WDP develops and invests in the logistic real estate field (warehouses and offices). WDP has about 4 million square meters of properties in its portfolio. This international portfolio of semi-industrial and logistic buildings includes 180 locations in the main logistic centres for storage and distribution in Belgium, Holland, France, Luxembourg and Romania.

The main owners of logistic and industrial parks in Romania are CTP, WDP, P3, VGP, Globalworth, Alinso Group, Logicor, ICCO Group, Helios Phoenix, TRC with portfolios between 100,000 and 700,000 square meters.

EIB has ensured investments of over 13 billion euro in 130 projects since the beginning of its collaboration with Romania, being an important pillar for the strategic economic development of the country, said BNR governor Mugur Isarescu on Monday, at the conference organized on the occasion of the anniversary of 60 years since the setting up of EIB.
