Real estate: Alesonor & Romania Green Building Council launch ”the greenest playground in Bucharest”
Alesonor, the developer of the first green luxury residential project in Romania – Amber Gardens, launches the greenest, most innovative and educational playground, a press release sent to ACTMedia reads. Developed at the initiative of Romania Green Building Council, designed and built by Alesonor, with input from Romania’s school children enrolled in the program, the playground located at Amber Gardens is an effort to raise awareness on the necessity of creating sustainable outdoor spaces for children’s education.
The playground at Amber Gardens reflects Alesonor’s concern for sustainability and promotes the bioclimatic design, including elements with high educational value for the children using it. This is built with the objective to raise the awareness of both adults and young children about environment protection, energy efficiency, sustainability and adopting bioclimatic elements that come into play when designing a healthy, natural and sustainable environment.
For building the playground elements with very low carbon footprint were used: materials and earth from the site, repurposed material and recyclable materials like stone gabions, wood, metal and glass. The playground equipment was produced using sustainably-forested wood and non-toxic paints and coatings.
The playground was placed strategically, using bioclimatic design, taking into account variables such as the position of the sun and the wind direction. The trees, carefully selected, offer protection against winds and create a comfortable and safe environment. The bioclimatic design of the park will be best seen and understood by children in time, while learning through play, at different times of day and in different seasons. Similarly, the bioclimatic design and the benefits of a passive house will be noticed and appreciated by residents of Amber Gardens green homes in time. Common places for play, such as swings and slides, are combined with unconventional and educational elements.
The green playground is divided into two distinct sections, one in which the garden is organized and controlled by the team of landscape architects and a section where the plants are allowed to form their own ecosystem, similar to the forest nearby. Having a large variety of species of trees and plants, the playground allows children to learn about the characteristics of different plants and plant parts such as leaves, flowers, fruits, bark, etc. The most diverse 16 species of trees will be near the children every day: red oak, Japanese cherry, silk tree, tulip tree or ginko biloba. Thanks to them, children will be able to enjoy the beauty of the natural diversity, learning and understanding the importance of protecting the environment. The choice of vegetation minimizes the use of water and eliminates the use of insecticide and artificial fertilizers for the garden.
"We have received with enthusiasm the proposal of Romania Green Building Council to design and build a green playground whose purpose is to strengthen children's connection with nature and to increase respect for it. We pay special attention to the environment and we are happy to invest in sustainable and educational projects, " says Leonidas Anastasopoulos, Managing Partner Alesonor, developer of Amber Gardens, the first residential project in Romania that integrates bioclimatic designs and follows the passive house standard.
The organization initiated the approach of constructing the playground following information sessions –" integrated design charrette " – who took place in 2015 and brought together developers, suppliers of materials, technology, and services, designers and architects, media, and, most importantly, children of all ages, which are the main beneficiary of the project.
“Romania Green Building Council is committed to initiate and create exemplary model projects that will demonstrate and ensure that the built environment will not imperil future generations, but rather be a source of valuable education, safety, health, comfort, innovation, and economic opportunity. Following this commitment, we launched the invitation to our community members, the country's leading green building investors and solution providers, to join forces to design and develop the greenest and most educational playground. This first green project developed at Amber Gardens is an exemplary solution for both adults and children on how to use nature in children’s education. We are glad to launch today the greenest and most educational playground and we welcome all of you who want to learn about nature and protecting the environment through play.”, declared Steve Borncamp, Adviser to the Romania Green Building Council.
The partners of the project are Alesonor residential developer, who provided land and design services, as well as some of the materials, Cabro Construct, who facilitated part of the construction, Holver, City Garden, Acropola and Bautehnik.
In October 2016, the project is opened to organized groups of students, by appointment on the website www.ambergardens.ro. The developer of the project will facilitate the visit and make available a guide-landscape architect to explain to visitors the project objectives.
