Health Ministry: In 2014 we will have three standard programs for cancer, diabetes and transplant
Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu declared on Tuesday that in 2014 there will be three national standard programs for cancer, diabetes and transplant with financing ensured as of January 1, 2014.
Nicolaescu, present at the conference “Transplant, post operatory patient and his everyday life” organized at Fundeni Clinical Institute by the Transplant Patients’ Association in Romania said he had asked the support of patient associations to elaborate, monitor possible modifications of the programs. He also announced that all health programs will be reorganized as of 2014 so as not to be divided between the Health Ministry and the National Health Insurance House (CNAS). All programs will be managed by the ministry while CNAS will deal with contracts and financing.
At the conference Nicolaescu said the number of donors and of transplant centers should grow.
“We must develop infrastructure and manage the National Transplant Register. The Health Ministry budget for 2014 will grow as a result of efforts made in past months, while the three standard programs will be paid as of January and will have budget. We will have to make some amendments for 2013 to ensure financing until the end of the month,” said the minister.
2013 is the year in which the transplant activity has reached the highest level in the last 24 years, which we consider post- revolutionary. We had the highest number of transplant operations made in Romania in a year. We also had the biggest number of donors we could find in Romania in a year,” said the minister at the conference. He explained those achievements by the fact that more donation centers had been created, more organ donation campaigns were organized and more teams were prepared for transplants.
