Agriculture: Pahontu (Romsilva): Virgin forests in Romania will be included in national catalogue
Virgin forests in Romania, occupying 200,000 - 300,000 hectares, will be included in a national catalogue of virgin forests, after being verified in point of criteria and validated by specialists, the new general manager of the National Forest Company (RNP) - Romsilva, Ciprian Pahontu announced.
“Every area on the list will be visited and criteria will be checked. We have virgin forests throughout the country, but especially in the south-western area, in Caras Severin, Mehedinti and Wallachia, with no accessibility. For the time being we do not the estimate on how many areas are state owned or private,” Pahontu said.
The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) published on its website, on May 24 the Draft Minister Order on setting up the National Catalogue of Virgin and Quasi Virgin Forests in Romania for public debate.
Citizens and institutions can send opinions, suggestions in 30 days after publication on the site at MMAP - Department of policies and strategies in silviculture.
