Romania's primary energy resources in 2012 diminished 2.2 percent and the electricity resources declined 2.7 percent, while the final electricity consumption increased 0.2 percent from 2011, as reveal the provisional data released by the National Institute for Statistics (INS) on Thursday.

Thus, the primary energy resource in 2012 totaled 34.015 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), declining 767,400 toe compared with 2011.

The domestic production amounted to 22.766 million toe, declining 2.7 percent from 2011, and the imports stood at 11.248 million toe, 1.2 percent lower.

According to the INS data, the electricity resources in 2012 accounted for 60.442 billion KWh, declining some 1.672 billion KWh (-2.7 percent) from 2011. The electricity resource decline was determined mainly by the production decline with 1.825 billion KWh (-3.0 percent).

The production of thermal power plants totaled 33.179 billion KWh, declining 135.1 million KWh (-0.4 percent). The production of hydro-power plants stood at 12.227 billion KWh, dropping some 2.806 billion KWh (-18.7 percent), and that of nuclear power plants totaled 11.466 million KWh, declining 281 million KWh (-2.4 percent).

Moreover, the production of wind power plants in 2012 stood at 2.64 billion KWh, increasing 1.397 billion KWh from 2011.

In 2012, the electricity exports stood at 710.5 million KWh, decreasing 1.746 billion KWh, namely 71.1 percent, and the own technological consumption in the networks and plants accounted for 6.775 billion KWh, 49.2 million KWh, namely 0.7 percent.

The information was collected from approximately 150 economic operators with activities in the area of primary and transformed energy production and the margin of error stands at +/- 3 percent.
