Eight out of ten Romanians consumed meat products in 2015, on the drop compared to data recorded in 2014, while four out of five Romanians declared they bought such products. These are results of a study released on Thursday by the Mercury Research at the congress devoted to meat industry in Romania, organized by “Meat Magazine”.

According to Ingrid Lambru, marketing director the research company Mercury Research, 62% of occasional meat product consumers in 2015 were women. 45% were over 55 years old and 33% had college education.

Last year, 82% of Romania’s urban population consumed meat products, on the drop against 2014 when 9 out of 10 people consumed that type of products.

At the same time in 2015, in the urban area 4 out of 5 Romanians bought meat products, the same level as in 2014.

According to the study, occasional consumers bought meat products twice a month, on the average, while national results showed an index of 5.9 occasions per month.

Last but not least, data show that in 2015 59% of occasional consumers bought meat products in modern trade and 26% in the traditional one.

Salami and hot dogs were favourites to the detriment of meat specialities or ham.
