Telecom.IT: Study: 90% of Romanians use smart phones at home, mostly in the evening
Most Romanians (89%) use smart phones at home particularly in the evening when people come home from work and relax, according to a study made by iSense Solutions presented at Mobifest, the mobile marketing forum organized by Evensys.
According to the study, other places where smart phone owners use that device are work (65%), public transport means (64%), on the road (64%), in coffee shops (58%), restaurants (50%) and even at social events/parties (43%). However, although subscriptions and pre-pay cards which include Internet have become more accessible, 54% of smart phone users prefer to connect to the Internet via wireless networks.
The number of different activities made by users on their smart phones at least once a day has grown from 8 in 2014 to 9 in 2016. The most common phone activities, besides speaking texting are the access of websites (87% of smart phone users have done it on a daily basis in 2016 against 68% in 2014), social networks (86% in 2016 versus 64% in 2014) and e-mails (79% in 2016 against 65% in 2014).
Romanians also use smart phones for chat, taking and editing photos, playing or listening to music.
82% of smart phone users watch video clips on their phones. Of them, 66% prefer watching them on online sites, 55% through various applications such as Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, 9GAG and Snapchat. Musical clips (77%), funny clips(73%) and tutorials (47%) are favourites.
The study also shows that Romanians use smart phones when they watch TV (68%), eat alone (60%), listen to the radio (54%), use the Internet on PC/laptop/tablet (51%) or when they read a book or newspaper in physical format (19%). Moreover the media can determine them to look for more information on smart phones, the most convincing channels being TV (48% of smart phone users looked for information on this device at least once after watching something interesting on TV) and the internet (46%).
Smart phones have become information sources for Romanian consumers, 92% of users looking for information about a product on this device at least once before buying it. The main information they are interested in concerns price, detailed characteristics about products and other consumers’ opinions. Moreover 34% of smart phone owners say they make weekly purchases by means of their phone, the main products being electronic (25%), followed by clothes and accessories (14% in 2016 against 8% in 2014).
The study was made online by iSense Solutions for Mobifest, on a sample of 1,029 respondents. Data are representative for people aged over 18, living in the urban area in Romania. The study was made over 2-5 April, 2016 and has an error margin of +/- 3.06% for a confidence level of 95%.
