Trade: PayU: December in top 3 months when Romanians make most online purchases
December is in top 3 months when Romanians make most online purchases, after November, marked by Black Friday event, March with Women’s Day, according to PayU, a global payment service supplier for companies.
951,000 online transactions of over 246 million lei were made in the PayU system.
“It is more simple, more rapid and more secure to pay online, and this thing was seen again at the end of the year, when Romanians bought online goods of 8 million lei daily. This thing indicates the fact that promotions and purchases define the Romanians’ online purchase behaviour,”says Marius Costin, Country Manager PayU Romania.
The most expensive online purchase basket reached 75,000 lei (insurances), followed by a transaction of 62,000 lei for antivirus licences and by a transaction of 49,000 lei for a gold purchase.
According to the press release, 8 out 10 people who buy online choose to pay by card, with an average basket value of 260 lei.
“Credit cards are winning more ground. In December, 2 out of 10 buyers in the PayU Romania system paid with credit cards. The chosen payment method indicates the behaviour of online consumption: the average value of the purchase basket was three times larger than a full payment by card, reaching over 630 lei,” Marius Costin, Country Manager PayU Romania added.
In December, 50% of payments registered from other countries in online stores in Romania focused on plane tickets and telecommunications services (14%).
