Agriculture : Romania holds 33 pct of total number of agricultural exploitations in EU

Romania holds 33 per cent of the total number of agricultural exploitations at EU level, while only Poland holds more than 10 per cent more of the total number of EU agricultural exploitations, 13.2 per cent respectively. However, in terms of agricultural area, Romania lays behind such states as France and Spain, said the President of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Tudorel Andrei, in a press conference.

"In a short amount of time, almost seven years, at European level, the number of agricultural exploitations decreased by 26 per cent. The agricultural land decreased, but very, very little, by 0.1 per cent per year. And what is the result of this? The result is bigger agricultural exploitations. Other very interesting statistics refer to the repartition of agricultural exploitations per countries. Romania holds the largest number of agricultural exploitations at EU level. We hold 33 per cent of the total number of agricultural exploitations. There is one single country, Poland, which holds more than 10 per cent, more precisely 13.2 per cent, of the total number of agricultural exploitations. The other countries hold less, regardless of the agricultural dimension of the respective country," Tudorel Andrei.

According to him, from the point of view of the agricultural land use, Romania lays behind other countries, with 7.5 per cent, while first places are taken by France, 15.9 per cent, Spain, 13.3 per cent, UK, 9.9 per cent, Germany, 9.6 per cent and Poland, 8.3 per cent.

According to INS data, the number of agricultural exploitations reached up to 3.422 million last year in Romania, by 5.7 per cent less compared with the level recorded i 2013 and by 11.3 less compared with 2010.

The number of agricultural exploitations without legal personality stood at 3.396 million, by 5.7 per cent less compared with 2013, and that of agricultural exploitations with legal personality was 26,000, by 6.4 per cent less than in 2013.
