Tourism: Number of Romanian and foreign tourists grew by 5.1% to 3.5 millions in first semester

In June 2014 the number of tourists who arrived and were accommodated in Romania grew by 1.8% to 808,000, compared to the same period of 2013, while in the first semester the number climbed by 5.1% to 3.5 million tourists, according to INS.

 

Of the total number 76.1% of tourists were Romanians, while 23.9% foreign, the National Statistics Institute (INS) shows. 77.7% of the number of foreign tourists were from Europe and of them 85.4% were from EU countries.

 

Arrivals in hotels in the first semester represent 75.6% of arrivals in tourist accommodation structures, on the rise by 5.6% compared to 2013.Arrivals of foreign tourists in Romania registered at border crossing points was 3.57 millions, on the rise by 3.4% compared to the same period of 2013. Most foreign visitors came from European countries (92.5%). 62.3% of them came from EU countries and of the latter, 30.8% visitors were from Hungary, 24.6% from Bulgaria, 9.4% from Germany, 7.5% from Italy, 4.8% from Poland and 4.3% from Austria.

 

In the first 6 months of the year, 5.6 million Romanian visitors left the country through border crossing points, on the rise by 5.4% from 2013. Most of them used road transportation to go abroad, representing 74.1% of the total number of visitors.

 

There were 7.57 million tourist accommodations in the first semester, on the rise by 6.4% compared to 2013. 78.2% of the total are accommodations of Romanian tourists while 21.8% represent foreign tourists. 76.1% of accommodations represented foreign tourists, and 84.5% of them were from EU countries.

 

The average period of stay in the first semester was of 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreign ones.The net use index of accommodation places was 21.4% of total tourist accommodation structures, on the rise by 1.1% against 2013.

 

Higher use of accommodation were recorded in hotels (26.9%), tourist villas (14.6%) and tourist pensions (13.6%).
