Telecom.IT : Gfk Study: Internet penetration rate in Romania, 61% in cities and 33% in rural areas

The Internet penetration rate grew a lot between 2010 and 2012, reaching 61% in cities and 33% in the rural area, according to a Gfk –Omnibus study which collected 40,000 answers in 2 years. The use degree among adults grew significantly.

 

Gfk Romania made a study about using Internet in Romania between 2010 and 2012. Results show that the incidence among persons over the age of 15 was 48.7% in 2012, on the rise by 8% compared to 2010.More women than men used the Internet over that period. In 2012 about 50% of men and 47% of women used the Internet. The number of men grew by 7.7% compared to 2010, while that of women grew by 9.3%.In the rural area the penetration rate climbed from 22% to 33% in two years.

As for the urban area, 61% of townspeople used the Internet in 2012, on the rise by 7% compared to 2010.

 

The highest penetration was in Bucharest, where 68% of people aged over 15 access the Internet.

The Internet is used by 83% of people between 15 and 24, 71% by those between 25 and 34 and 62% be persons between 35 and 44 years old, according to Gfk.

 

Mention should be made that the use of Internet grew mostly among adult persons, 35 to 44, more than 15%. A significant growth of 8% was remarked for ages of 45-54.When it refers to education, the study shows that 89% of people with college education and 52% of people with high school education use the Internet.

 

The appearance of gadgets, the expansion of Internet suppliers are just a few of the factors who support the accelerated increase of the use of Internet. Many companies redesign their business, build strategies approaching digital consumers, considers Traian Nastase, online project manager Gfk Romania.

Data presented are part of Gfk Romania Omnibus and were collected between 2010 and 2012, being representative at national level for people over 15, the margin of error being +/-0.7%. About 1500-1700 persons were questioned monthly.
