Telecom. IT: Over a third of Romanian households own tablet
About 36% of households in Romania own a tablet or more, 73% have at least a smart phone and 55% have laptops, according to a study made by the National Authority in Communications (ANCOM).
The average per household is 1.1 tablets and 1.5 smart phones.
“50% of Romanians have access to mobile internet for telephones, based on subscription, 35% through telephones based on prepaid cards and 25% have access by means of a stick or USB card with subscription. 67% of subscriptions/extra options, 70% of prepaid cards , 45% of tablets/USB cards for Internet access have unlimited traffic, while 33% of subscriptions/extra options, 30% of prepaid cards with access, 55% of tablets/USB cards have unlimited access or unlimited access with restrictions to mobile Internet,” ANCOM shows in a press release.
55% of mobile Internet users with limited access answered they are attentive to the way in which they use the traffic and never exceed it. 24% declare they seldom use it beyond the traffic limit and only 10% admit that happens often or very often. 38% of those who exceed the included traffic give up using mobile Internet until the billing date, while 60% continue to use it, either by paying additional costs or having lower Internet speed.
In case of mobile Internet services, Romanians pay an average 58 lei for a service purchased individually, while they pay 109 lei for package of mobile Internet services. Most users pay between 23 and 45 lei for an individual service or over 90 lei for a package of services.
The study showed that Romanians are generally satisfied by the present supplier of mobile Internet services and only 5% changed their operator in the last 12 months for reasons like the wish to benefit from a more advantageous offer (24% of respondents), the wish to benefit from the purchase of a new device (smart phone, tablet or laptop - 17%), the traffic volume included (17%) and the coverage area which does not correspond to the users’ needs (13% especially in the rural area).
Mobile Internet is used mainly for navigation, social networks and email, and for instant messages or vocal communication. 78% use it daily or almost every day, while 15% use it 2-3 times a week. 76% of mobile Internet users have fixed Internet, the mobile connection being usually used when the fixed one does not work.
The study was made by International Consulting Expertise in collaboration with CCSAS for ANCOM, on a sample of 1,549 persons in Romania who use mobile Internet access. The margin of error was +/- 2.5% at a probability level of 95%.
