Romania, invited by France for the 24th edition of the European fair of the professionals in zootechnics
Romania is invited as guest of honour to the 24th edition of the European fair of the professionals in zootechnics – Sommet de l’Elevage – organised in Clermont-Ferrant, France between 7 and 9 October, the last time our country took part in this event with stock and genetics being in 2008. According to a press release of the French Embassy to Bucharest, Romania will send approximately 50 cattle breeders and sheep breeders specialised either in milk production or meat production. The main aim of the Romanian visitors is that of knowing the French breeds and get into contact with French exporters and with equipment producers.
The state secretary in the ministry of agriculture Daniel Botanoiu stated in May that the French want a solid partnership with Romania with the associations of sheep breeders to be able to bring their genetics in our country.
‘We have collaborated very well with the agency of the ministry of agriculture inFrance to get an opportunity to send several farmers to the fair as we are a country invited as guest of honour. The French want a solid partnership with Romania, with the associations of sheep breeders, to get their genetics to our country, to develop it here and then to get sheep meat produced in Romania and take it to Europe for very good and correct price. They want this because at present in Europe, lamb is lacking’ stated Daniel Botanoiu on 19 May 2015.
The ministry official said that the ministry of agriculture looks for financial solutions to support the presence of the Romanian farmers to this event dedicated to zootechnics.
The 24th edition Sommet de l’elevage will gather 1,300 participants (out of whom 270international from 28 countries) and 85,000 professionals visitors ( out of whom 4,000 international visitors from 70 countries)on a surface of 17 ha.
In the fair in Clermont-Ferrand, region situated in the ‘middle’ of the Massif Central, the most important area specialised in cattle breeding for meat in Europe will be presented in contests 2,000 stock of high genetic quality -1,300 cattle (22 breeds), 400 sheep ( 26 breeds) and 300 horses (16 breeds). This fair is, at the same time, the most important European fair of cattle for meat.
At the same time, the programme includes activities made in collaboration with the specialised institutions in France with the chambers and syndicates in the agricultural domain as well as with institutional partners.
France is the second world exporter of cattle for meat and dairies, the fifth producer of goat milk and the seventh producer of cow milk and beef, the French animal genetics being exported in 90 countries.
At the end of 2014, Romania was situated tenth among the countries of the European Union as regards the number of cattle with a total of 2.06 million heads, at at the end of the ranking as regards the density on the surface with only 15.4 animals at 100 ha, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
France,Germany and the UK occupy the first three places in the top of cattle numbers, with 19.2 million, 12.7 million and 9.6 million heads respectively.
As regards the sheep and goat numbers Romania is fourth among the member states with 10.9 million heads, after the UK (23 million)Spain (18.68 million) and Greece (13.53 million heads). From the point of view of density on the surface, our country is sixth in the EU with 81.6 animals for 100 ha.
