Telecom. IT: 6.4 million TV program subscribers in 2013 of whom 4.1 preferred cable

The number of subscribers to TV broadcasting services reached 6.4 million at the end of 2013, on the rise by 5.7% compared to 2012. Most of them prefer cable services, according to the annual Report on the electronic communications market in Romania released on Tuesday by ANCOM.

 

Last year, 85% of households in Romania benefited from TV broadcasting services according to data reported by suppliers, processed and published by ANCOM.Of the total of 6.4 million subscribers 4.1 millions were subscribers to services supplied through cable networks (+8.7% against 2012), 2.2 millions were subscribers to DTH type satellite networks (-0.2%) while 56,000 received those programs through IP technology (+49%).

 

According to official data, the coverage rate of broadcasting services at household level grew by 4% to 85.1%, while that of cable broadcasting reached 55.1%.At the end of 2013, 62% of employees were from the urban area and 81% of them were cable subscribers. At the same time in the rural area, 61% had DTH type satellite subscriptions.

 

The number of subscribers to cable networks grew by 8% to 4.1 millions, of whom 1.5 millions have access to digital services (+25% increase compared to 2012). The share of subscribers to digital programs had reached 3.7 millions of the total of 6.4 million subscribers to broadcasting services, on the rise by 7.4% against the previous year.

 

The biggest share of digital subscribers - 59% represent DTH satellite subscribers but the highest increase was recorded by digital cable subscribers in 2013 while those who use IPTV technology recorded an increase of 49%.

 

The ANCOM Report shows that on December 31, 2013 the total number of subscribers to specific packages (telephone and/or services and /or broadcasting sold for a single price) was of 2.9 millions.

Moreover the number of subscribers to multiple electronic communications services had reached 8.7 millions.

More
