Romania in top ten wine consumers in the world
Romania remains in the top ten wine consumers in the world in point of fiscal consumption, which amounts to 24 liters per capita, said Catalin Padureanu, Romania’s representative at the International Wine and Vine Organization at the opening of the International Goodwine Fair on Friday.
Over 1,000 wines coming from 100 local and foreign producers were at the disposal of fair visitors over April 25-27.
“Fiscal consumption in Romania is of 24 liters per capita, which ranks us ninth in the world. Of them 15% are wines above average. For the urban area we have a consumption behaviour similar to that of Europe, about 5% if fiscal consumption for premium and super premium wine,” Paduraru said.
At the spring edition of the International Goodwine Fair at Romexpo, Romanian producers, importers, distributors and companies participate.
“Romania is now exporting to mature markets in the US, Canada, Germany, China, Japan, Israel and Poland. There is an opening in this respect in the local market which absorbs the Romanian product very well. Consumption is growing, especially the fiscal one. The best sold wines sold for export are those from local and foreign varieties, while the HoReCa market is on the rise,” Paduraru added.
