Sibiu, best tourist destination of the year in Romania
The City of Sibiu (central Romania) was declared the best tourist destination of the year in Romania at the Excellence Awards Gala organized on Thursday evening by Hotel Tourism Leisure Investment Conference, according to a press release remitted by the Sibiu Town Gall.
Sibiu was favored over other renowned tourist destinations such as Bucovina, Transalpina, Sighisoara or the Danube delta.
'The Hotel Tourism & Leisure Investment Conference Excellence Awards Gala is at its fourth edition, being an event in which the most efficient and innovative projects and concepts in the tourism and hospitality industry of Romania are awarded. Sibiu has received, as part of the Gala, the award for the best tourist destination of the year. In the same category were nominated also Alba Iulia, Bucovina, Transalpina, Sighisoara, the Danube Delta and Targu Mures', the press release shows.
A lot of tourists that come to Sibiu are attracted by the museums there. Sibiu is the most important museum center in Romania, managing to attract, through its two large museums - the Brukenthal National Museum, the oldest in our country and the ASTRA National Museum Complex, the largest open-air museum in Romania - the most tourists, at least half a million visitors each year, according to the directors of the two museums.
'Sibiu, with ASTRA, is clearly the most important museographic center in Romania and the most visited. However we put it, more than 500,000 people yearly visit Sibiu's museums. (...) It is an extraordinarily good sign, because in the West as well, there is no tourist that does not enter a museum. We are starting to climb', said at the beginning of the year, in a press conference, the Director of the Brukenthal National Museum Sabin Adrian Luca.
Not only the museums, but also the multitude of festivals attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year to Sibiu. The City of Sibiu is appreciated not only by Romanians, but also by foreigners. The former European cultural capital, Sibiu, was included in a chart of the most charming cities in Europe, at the beginning of this month, by the American news website huffingtonpost.com.
