Romania got on surplus in the trade with food after the three quarters of 2015, exports increasing with 7.6% against the same period of 2014 up to 4.2 billion euro, while imports had as a total 4.16 billion euro, a plus of17.3%, according to the data centralised by the ministry of agriculture (MADR).’The commercial surplus of food produce exchange of the first nine months of 2015 was 31.1 million euro, dropping against the level of 349.6 million euro recorded during the same period of 2014. Romania exported food worth 4.2 billion euro, with 297.1 million euro more than during the corresponding period of 2014, and imports worth 4.16 billion euro increased more intensely, surpassing by 615.6 million euro the value of the first nine moths of 2014’ MADR says.
Foreign deliveries of corn and cigarettes which generated one third of the collections from exports of food increased by 331.3 million euro ( total export 725.5 million euro) and with 174.3 million euro respectively (total export 673.9 million euro). The total quantity of corn exported in the first 9 months increased 2.5 times against the same period of 2014, up to 3.86 million tons, and that of cigarettes 1.2 times, with a total of 37,800 tons.
According to the MADR data, supplementary income against the income of the first nine months of 2014 were obtained for export of rice (+41.6 million euro), sunflower oil (+19.8 million euro), sheep and goat meat (+14.5 million euro), poultry (+11.1 million euro), chocolate (+9.2 million euro) cheeses (+5.5 million euro) and mineral waters with sugar (+4.2 million euro).
Against the first nine months of 2014, the volume of exports of wheat dropped by 1.423 million tons ( total export 2.58 million tons), as compared to 4.4 million tons in 2014 and collections diminished by 260.7 million euro. The export of rape seed diminished (-53 million euro), sunflower seeds (-24.8 million euro), live animals (sheep or goats) (-15.5 million euro), cattle (-14.8million euro) and pork (-2.9 million euro).
As regards imports, they increased at most of the categories, mainly in corn (+182.9 million euro, imports for reexport), rice (+41.6 million euro), tobacco (+39.7 million euro), sugar (+31 million euro), bananas (+29.8 million euro),coffee (+24.9 million euro), bakery-pasties (+23 million euro), chocolate (+19.7 million euro), citrus fruits (+13.2 million euro), food produce (+10 million euro) mineral waters with sugar (+9.5 million euro). The import of live animals dropped (-23.1 million euro), wheat (-6 million euro) as well as milk and cream (-0.9 million euro) as the price of raw materials dropped, the imported quantity being bigger by 14,900tons.
The European Union was the main partner in the food trade of Romania. Thus, in the first nine months of 2015, deliveries of food to this destination had a share of 63% and the acquisitions from the member states had a share of 80.8%.
