Romania can become important player on European cereals market

Romania can become an important player on the European cereals market if you know how to use the farm production not only as revenues, but more as volume for consolidating the position in the area, European Commissioner for Agriculture Dacian Ciolos told the National Conference of Farmers.

'It would be good if you were aware of the fact that Romania can become an important player on the cereals market in Europe, but also in this region if you know how to use this lever, farm production, not only as revenues, namely what comes into your accounts every year, but to use the production as volume in the south-eastern area for you to consolidate your position in Europe. A large quantity of cereals can be used for you to have something to say on the price. ... The Ukrainians play this game better and better and even the Russians do it,' Ciolos told the farmers.

He made it clear that the force of Romanian farmers can also be seen in the way they use the raw material they produce as an economic power as it is important in the area, but also on the European market.

'If in 2011 and 2012 you proved that one can get a cereals production, at the same time Romania depends on the environment conditions. It seems people need a long-term strategy that should not only confine itself to strategic guidelines, but also to concrete actions that can be included in the governing programmes,' added Ciolos.

The League of Associations of Agriculture Producers in Romania (LAPAR) on Thursday, in Bucharest, organizes the National Conference of Farmers, where there are 750 participants from all parts of Romania, LAPAR representative members. Romania's President Traian Basescu, European Commissioner for Agriculture Dacian Ciolos and Minister of Agriculture Daniel Constantin also attend the above-mentioned event.
