July's new vehicle registrations at 14,240-plus, down 44 pct YoY

New vehicle registrations this July stood at 14,240-plus, by 44 percent less YoY, shows a preliminary analysis of registration data published by the Association of Automotive Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

Of the total number of new vehicles, 12,950 were new cars, with this number standing also 44.2 percent lower than in July last year.

At 30,113 units, used car registrations were 24.8 percent less than in the year-ago period.

New car registrations over January - July 2020 stood at 62,566 units, 34 percent down YoY, while the 211,726 used cars registered in the reporting period were by 17.9 percent less compared to the year-ago number.

The Dacia brand tops the ranking in the category of new cars registered in the period January - July 2020 (with 18,949 units, down 33.8 percent YoY), followed by Skoda (5,000 units, down 34.6 percent), Volkswagen (4,969 units, down 25.3 percent), Renault (4,847 units, down 43.3 percent) and Hyundai (4,064 units, down 8.9 percent).

The 7-month top ranking of used car registrations is the following: Volkswagen (52,459 units, - 17.3 percent YoY), BMW (21,661 units, -16.9 percent), Audi (21,232 units, -12.4 percent), Ford (16,113 units, -25.4 percent) and Opel (15,666 units, -33.1 percent).

July's registrations of new commercial vehicles (LCVs, HCVs, minibuses, buses) were 39.2 percent down YoY, with light vehicle numbers dropping by 35.3 percent. There was a 37 percent decline in commercial vehicle registrations over the first 7 months of 2020 (light vehicle numbers fell 26.8 percent).
