IRES Survey : 90% of Romanians say that health is the main reason for which they take care of what they eat

Most Romanians – 90%- say health is the main reasonfor which they are careful with what they eat, while 10% consider that ‘ it is important we know what we eat’, according to a survey IRES made on 14 and 15 May. The survey shows that 70%of the interviewees do not permit financially to choose healthy food, and 19% due to lack of time.. As regards food which they buy from shops, 76% are careful at the validity of the products, 69% at the way they look, 39% packagage, 57% at the price, 81% at smell.

Referring to the main meal 30% indicate the lunch, 15% -breakfast, 7% - dinner while 22% appreciate that all three meals are important. Meat is preferred by 21% of the interviewees, 19% opting for vegetables, 18% borshs, 8% -soups, 6% - potato-based dishes, 5% - rolled meat in cabbage leaves, 3% -dairy products and cheese and 1% fruits.

Most of the interviewees (89%) serve lunch at home, 9% at office, and 1% at the restaurant.
According to the survey, the apples are the favourate fruit by 56% of the interviewees, the bananas by 10%, oranges 7%, pears 6% and strawberries 4%. Kiwi, melon, cherries, grapefruit, pineapple, peaches, tangerines and avocado enjoy the preferences of only 1% of the interviewees, 45% consuming daily fruit, while 39% say – some times a week, 9% -some times a month, 7% say they eat fruit very rarely.
Tomatoes are the vegetables for which 36% opt and for carrots – 18%. Consumption of potatoies is preferred by 8% and beans 5%. For dessert, 41% choose cookies, 8% pies, 8% icecream, 5% - fruit, 4% pancakes, doughnouts, and 4% - chocolate. The rest opt for puddings, compote and another dessert. 12% stated they had no favourite dessert.

The volume of the IRES sample was 1,160 people, with ages starting 18.The questionnnaires were made on 14 and 15 May.The maximum error tolerated is plus-minus 2.9%.
