Agriculture : AgriMin Constantin: Over 200 million euros invested in Romania's winegrowing over past five years
As much as 200 million euros worth of European funds have been invested in Romania' winegrowing industry over the past four-five years and similar amounts are expected in 2014-2018, Romania's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Daniel Constantin told a press conference on Thursday.
'European funds under the vine reconversion and replantation programme exceeded 200 million euros and went into winegrowing over the past four-five years, while similar amounts will be invested in 2014-2018 for the further development of Romania's winegrowing,' said Constantin.
He mentioned that out of 180,000 hectares of noble vine in Romania, nearly 10 per cent received European funds.
'Out of the total area of 180,000 hectares of noble vine currently in existence, I believe 18,000 hectares have received European funds under the reconversion and replantation programme. I believe the Romanian wine can be seen as a genuine ambassador of Romania overseas in terms of internationally acclaimed quality,' added Constantin.
The minister on Thursday attended a press conference for the official opening of the International Wine Competition Bucharest (IWCB) 2103 hosted by the National Library of Romania.
The event is organised at the initiative of Romania's National Office for Vine, Wine and Winegrowing Products (ONVPV) by the Association of Romania's Authorised Wine Tasters (ADAR), in partnership with ASER Wineconsulting.
IWCB 2013, the 10th edition of the competition, is organised under the aegis of Romania's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, a 45-member organisation of wine making and consuming countries.
Romania is ranked 10th in the world in terms of wine consumption, while IWCB is designed as a competition able to match Romania's importance in this province.
