Henri Coanda Airport ranked No. 4 among European airports with highest air traffic growth
Airports Council International ranked Henri Coanda International Airport of Bucharest Europe No. 4 among the airports having recorded the highest growth of the air traffic in the first half of 2015, in the group of the airports welcoming between 5 and 10 million passengers a year. The top three airports in this group included Milan-Bergamo, Porto and Glasgow, with Budapest ranking 5th.
The National Bucharest Airports Company (CNAB) recorded more than 4.217 million passengers and 52,116 flights (landings and take-offs) at Bucharest's International Henri Coanda 'Otopeni' Airport and International Bucharest-Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airport in the six months as compared to last Jan.-June, thus setting the prerequisites for hitting the 9-million passenger mark this year, CNAB said in a release.
According to it, Henri Coanda Airport accounted for the bulk of such traffic, with 4,215,314 passengers and 46,426 aircraft movements.
The evolution of the number of passengers at the two Bucharest international airports significantly outdoes the general European trend of 4.5 percent. Aircraft landings and take-offs at Bucharest airports also grew and passed the 2 percent European trend. Thus, the number of aircraft movements at the two international airports in the first six months was up 8.7 percent from the same period last year.
Operating at Henri Coanda International Airport at present are 31 airlines, which fly passengers to 70 destinations. Two new airlines began operating at Henri Coanda Airport in 2014, Ryanair and Air Baltic respectively.
CNAB began functioning in Feb. 2010 and it provides the operating coordination and management of the two Bucharest airports. CNAB was set up by the merger of the companies that managed the two Bucharest airports — Henri Coanda and Bucharest-Baneasa respectively.
