Agriculture : Forest fruits in the mountaineous regions, a product exported with success on the European market
The Forestry department Maramuresti estimates this autumn they could export over 100 tons of forest fruits – blackberries, raspberries, - on the European market.The campaign of picking the forest fruits started with the help of inhabitants in the villages in Maramures county.
Forest fruits are considered an ecological product as they come from the mountaineous areas which are protected from pollution.
‘The picking of forest fruits is made in alpine areas, starting from 500 m altitude and gets to 2,000 metres high, areas situated at big distances from cities and localities where there is pollution, especially dust. The forest fruits, we could say could be integrated in bio products as they develop and grow in the natural environment without the intervention of the human. A ton of forest fruits can get over 1,500 euro, but it much depends on the supply on the market, the price getting even higher. For us it is the business of the season and we try to manage it as well as possible’ the spokesperson of the Maramures forestry department ing. Mihai Lesan said.
Besides the forest fruits, the forest people in Maramures offer different kinds of mushrooms and medical plants. The picking of forest fruits is made especially in the Gutai Mountains, Maramures and Pietrosul Rodnei mountains.
