Food prices in Romania decreased by 1.17 percent in July
Food prices in Romania decreased by 1.17 percent on the average in July, on a June basis, and by 7.25pct year-on-year, according to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Prices of non-food goods advanced by 0.48pct from June to July and by 1.26pct from July 2014.
Services were 0.09pct more expensive in July compared to June and up by 2.20pct year-on-year.
Among foods, the largest monthly drop was seen for vegetables - 10.27pct, potatoes - 8pct, and fresh fruit, nearly 4pct. Prices went up by 2.56pct for citrus fruit and by 1.27pct for eggs.
The only non-food with significantly lower prices were medicines - down by 3.53pct in July, and medical goods - 3.36pct, while natural gas prices climbed 11.23pct from June. Service tariffs advanced by 1pct for water, sewerage and garbage collection and shrunk by 0.44pct for postage and telecommunications.
The value-added tax on agri-food goods, including non-alcoholic beverages, has been reduced from 24pct to 9pct since June 1, which resulted in significant lower prices that month - minus 8.23pct from May and 6.44pct from June 2014.
