GfK Temax: Household goods market grows by 19% in H1

The household goods market in Romania exceeded 1.4 billion euros in the first semester of the year, on the rise by 18,9% against the same period of 2017, according to the GfK Temax study released on Monday.

The telecommunication segment recorded sales of 627 million lei, 35.9% more than in s.1, 2017. Smart phones with 5.6 inch diagonal and products from the highest  price class recorded values two times higher than in s1, 2017. Dual sim phones positively influenced the market with a two figure increase rate. The engine of smart phone accessory market was represented by smart watches, with or without sim cards. On the other hand, drops were recorded for smart phone models under 5.6 inches, their place being taken by models with larger diagonals. The segment recording drops was that of fitness bracelets which recorded a slight regress.

According to the report, sales of large household appliances reached 248 million euros in s1, 2018, 4.1% over the same period of 2017. In this context, the increase came from traditional categories, such as refrigerators or dish washing machines. At the same time, cookers and microwave ovens recorded a negative evolution at the end of quarter 2, 2018.

Data centralized by GfK show that the IT sector recorded sales of 209 million lei, on the rise by 12.6%, with positive contributions brought by sales of laptops, desktops and monitors. At the same time,there were increases for gaming products and those with superior specifications. At the opposite pole there were tablets under 10 inches.

The electronic market recorded sales of 205 million euros over s.1 2018 - s.1 2017, the equivalent of 10.5% increase, in which TV sets had the biggest contribution, large diagonals recording two figure sales. Video action cameras and audio products had positive evolutions compared to s.1, 2017. On this segment, earphones without microphone recorded a two figure drop.

According to the document, in the first 6 months of the year, small household appliances recorded sales of 97 million euros, 5.8% more than in 2017. In this respect, full automatic espresso machines contributed to increases in the second quarter of the year.

In case of printers, sales reached 16 million euros (+16%), in the first 6 months of the year. The best performance was that of multifunctional equipment, especially those with average and higher prices. Ink printing equipment dropped because of the negative dynamics of products with lower prices.

The GfK Temax report shows that the photo department had overall sales of 10 million euros at the end of s.1, 2018, on the drop by 9.8% compared to the 6 months of the previous year. Despite the drop recorded in the sector, mirrorless photo cameras went up by two figures. On the other hand, DSLR type photo cameras continued to drop.
