Construction works decline 9.6 pct in Romania, Jan.-May, 2014

Construction works declined 9.6 per cent in the first five months of 2014 in unadjusted terms and 8.9 per cent in terms adjusted for the number of work days and seasonality, but it was up 17.4 per cent on a monthly basis in May 2014 in unadjusted terms, according to provisional data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
According to INS, during the January 1 - May 31, 2014 period compared with the January 1 May 31, 2013 period, volume of construction works, unadjusted series, decreased by 9.6 per cent. By structure elements, decreases were registered as follows: capital repairs works by 20.1 per cent, maintenance and current repairs works by 11.4 per cent and for new construction works by 6.5 per cent. By construction objects, volume of construction works decreased by 26.6 per cent for engineering works. For residential buildings and non-residential buildings, volume of construction works increased by 37.1 per cent, respectively by 15.3 per cent. During the January 1 - May 31, 2014 period compared with the January 1 - May 31, 2013 period, volume of construction works, series adjusted with the working days number and seasonality decreased by 8.9 per cent, being pointed out as follows: capital repairs works by 20.1 per cent, maintenance and current repairs works by 10.4 per cent and for new construction works by 7.1 per cent. By construction objects, engineering works decreased by 27.7 per cent. Residential buildings and non-residential buildings increased by 24.7 per cent, respectively by 12.2 per cent. In May 2014, volume of construction works (unadjusted series) increased by 17.4 per cent compared to April 2014, being pointed out as follows: maintenance and current repairs by 46.6 per cent, capital repairs works by 22.3 per cent and new construction works by 7.6 per cent. By construction objects, increases were registered for residential buildings by 110.5 per cent and for engineering works by 29.3 per cent. Non-residential buildings decreased by 24.7 per cent. Volume of construction works, series adjusted with the working days number and seasonality registered a decrease of 1.3 per cent in May 2014, compared to April 2014. By structure elements, a decrease was registered for new construction works by 2.9 per cent. Maintenance and current repairs works and capital repairs works increased by 19.3 per cent, respectively by 12.9 per cent. By construction objects, volume of construction works decreased for non-residential buildings by 23.6 per cent. Residential buildings and engineering works increased by 73.5 per cent, respectively by 3.7 per cent.

Compared with the same month of the previous year, as unadjusted series, volume of construction works decreased by 10.7 per cent. By structure elements, decreases took place as follows: for capital repairs works by 22.7 per cent, new construction works by 9.8 per cent and for maintenance and current repairs works by 5.2 per cent. By construction objects, engineering works decreased by 28.8 per cent and non-residential buildings by 3.7 per cent. For residential buildings, volume of construction works increased by 129.0 per cent.

Volume of construction works, series adjusted with the working days number and seasonality, decreased by 9.7 per cent in May 2014, compared to May 2013. By structure elements, decreases were registered as follows: capital repairs works by 19.7 per cent, new construction works by 8.2 per cent and for maintenance and current repairs works 6.8 per cent. By construction objects, volume of construction works decreased for engineering works by 28.8 per cent and increased for residential buildings by 90.1 per cent and for non-residential buildings by 0.5 per cent.
