Cars: Ferrari, Lotus, Daihatsu top exclusive car registrations in Romania in H1, 2014

Romanians' preferred brands when it comes to buying exclusive cars, both new and second hand over Jan. - June 2014 were Ferrari, Maserati, Lotus and Daihatsu, reveal the statistics published by the Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration Directorate (DRPCIV) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI).

According to this source, second-hand Ferrari registrations in the first half of 2014 went up 75 percent compared to the same period of 2013, namely 7 units. In addition, as regards the Italian car brand, 5 new Ferrari cars were registered over Jan.-June 2014, the same as in the first six months of 2013.

The DRPCIV statistics reveal that 4 second-hand Lotus cars were registered in H1, 2014, but no new Lotus car.

The list of exclusive new cars registered in H1, 2014 also includes Jaguar (20 units, -33.33 percent as compared to H1, 2013) Maserati (7 units, +75 percent) and Bentley (7 units, +16.67 percent).

When it comes to second-hand cars of uncommon brands, the best-selling car brand was Daihatsu (411 units, up 11.9 percent compared to H1, 2013), followed by Jaguar (51 units, -46.88 percent), Chrysler (32 units, -72.41 percent), Cadillac (9 units, -35.71 percent), Maserati (7 units, +100 percent) and Bentley (7 units, +40 percent).

Generally speaking, according to DRPCIV, 31,225 new cars (+27.19 percent compared to 2013), 98,633 second-hand units (-3.05 percent) respectively were registered over Jan.-June 2014.

The DRPCIV official data show that at end-2013, the national fleet had reached nearly 5.98 million units, on an uptrend by 4.73 percent as compared to the same period of 2012. Of this, about 4.7 million units were cars, of which over 3.3 million were having Diesel engines.

Also, 1.91 million vehicles of the national fleet were older than 6 to 10 years, while 1.42 million units were in use for 11 to 15 years. Almost 1.14 million cars were older than 20 years.

In addition, 2.35 million Romanians preferred Diesel cars, while 3.32 million preferred gasoline ones.
