Construction contract signed for Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport
A construction contract for the runway of the future Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport was signed on Sunday by the Brasov County Council and Vectra Service SRL, the winner of the tender for the works. After the runway is built, a tender will be held for the construction of a terminal, in which, as Charmin of the Brasov County Council Aristotel Cancesu says, foreign companies have already voiced interest.
The runway will be 2,850 m long and 45 m broad. Construction will start next spring.
Attending the press conference where the contract was unveiled, MP Constantin Nita, one of the supporters of the investment said 'this is a historic day for Brasov City because construction works will finally start on the airport.'
He added that there are more than 30,000 accommodation places in the Brasov-Predeal-Rasnov-Poiana-Brasov-Bran-Zarnesti neighbour area, which indicates the efficiency of the investment.
Cancescu estimated the first flights could land at the airport in two years' time.
The price for the construction of the runway is 12.7 million euros, VAT excluded.
