Cars: National car fleet grows 27pct in past 5 years to almost 4.5 mln cars
The national car fleet reached in 2012 almost 4.5 million units, on a market where Dacia ranks 1st, with almost one third of the total figure (some 1.417 million units) and German car makes Volkswagen and Opel close the podium, with nearly one million units, show the findings of a survey drawn up by the auto.ro portal and consulting company Daedalus Millward Brown.
Thus, in terms of the volume of the national car fleet, it totaled, at the end of last year, as many as 4,485,148 units, of which 31.6 percent represented Dacia cars.
Basically, from 2008 to 2012, the car fleet in Romania grew by 27 percent, with the annual average being 6 percent.
Of the total figure reported, more than half of the cars (55 percent) were older than 10 years, with a process of continuous aging of the car fleet (from 10 to 12 years) taking place at the same time.
According to the quoted survey, most cars are between 6 and 10 years old, while the cars of up to five years old represent only 15 percent of the total amount.
The share of the used cars is the lowest in Bucharest (69 percent) and highest in the western country of Banat (over 85 percent).
Motorists are the most pleased with Asian and German cars (Honda, Mazda and Volvo), while Citroen, Honda and Volkswagen have the best score in terms of town consumption, with Skoda, Honda and Citroen topping the ranking of the best out-of-town consumption.
The survey was conducted exclusively online, through collaboration between the auto.ro and Daedalus, from June to December 2012, on a representative sample of 11,740 people aged 18.
