Cars: Automobile industry grows by 19% in first three months

New car registrations in Romania grew by 19% in the first quarter to 13,300 units compared to the similar period of 2013, when 9,679 units were registered, as a result of a 10% increase against January –March 2012, according to DRPCIV data.

 

March was a very good month for the industry with 4,577 new cars registered, an increase of 37.7% compared to March 2013.The cars most in demand in that period were Dacia with 3,952 units, Skoda with 1,394 units, Ford with 1,229 units, Volkswagen 1,103 units and Open 580 units.

 

The Romanians registered 46,800 second hand cars, 12% less than the previous year, when 53,000 units were registered.In March, the number of second hand cars registered (16,200 units) was 14% smaller than in March 2013 (18,800 units).

 

The classification in the second hand market after the first three months of the year is led by Volkswagen with 13,189 units, followed by Opel with 8,300 units, Ford 5,495 units, Audi 3,157 units and BMW 2,923 units.

 

On the overall, new and second hand car registrations in Romania dropped by 6% in the first three months to 60,200 units. The car park maintained its 5% increase in 2013 too in Romania, reaching 5.98 million units.
