Broad band Internet connections reached 16 millions in 2014
Broad band Internet connections in Romania reached 16 million in 2014, of which most (12 millions) represented connections for mobile points based on subscriptions, according to ANCOM data presented on Tuesday at the 19th edition of the conference Communications Day. Data show that of the 12 million connections 10.7 millions are 3G and 3G+ and 709,000 are 4G connections, all generating a total traffic of 46,000 terra bytes. An average monthly traffic of 0.26 gigabytes was registered by means of a broad band connection to mobile points.
“Broad band connections to mobile points based on subscriptions exceeded prepaid card connections, 6.4 millions being from subscriptions and 5.6 millions from prepaid cards. The increase of the total number of connections led to the increase by 12% to 60.2% of the Internet penetration rate for mobile points, compared to 2013 and by 25% compared to 2012,”a press release shows.
On the other hand, fixed point broad band connections have grown by 5.8% per year, to 4 millions, generating an annual traffic of 3.6 million terrabytes. The average monthly traffic (download and upload) per user was of 76.1 gigabytes last year.
At the same time, over 91% of total broad band connections for fixed points are contracted by natural persons while 400,000 represent those of juridical persons.
