Verbund investment of 380 mln euros in Casimcea wind farm
Austrian company Verbund has invested 380 million euros in the wind farm near Casimcea (in the eastern county of Tulcea), the company's CEO Wolfgang Anzengruber has announced.
After a development phase of over 4 years and a construction period of roughly one year, the leader of the Austrian electricity market, Verbund, has commissioned one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe, near the Black Sea coast.
The construction works on the Casimcea wind farm were carried out from 2011 to 2012. Approximately half of the 225 MW wind farm is connected to the grid, and other wind turbines will be connected by 2014. Currently 100 MW are already in operation, and 125 MW are under construction. Anz engruber has given assurances that those 125 MW will be operated as well.
'We will finalize the second phase, which means a full investment for the 225 MW, the expected power. There is no doubt that the investment will be completed,' he said.
In turn, Dieter Meyer, the CEO of Verbund Renewable, said that the works are sped up so that the investment should be finalized by the year's end, although the completion was planned for early 2014.
In this context, Wolfgang Anzengruber said that wind energy is the perfect complement to hydropower, on which the production of the company focuses, and Romania provides good framework conditions for the Verbund investment.
The wind farm is situated at some 250 km from Bucharest, in the province of Dobrogea. Wind conditions in that area are as favourable as those at the North Sea in Germany, providing optimal conditions for developing a project of such a scale, explained Wolfgang Anzengruber.
The CEO said that 88 wind turbines can generate 540 GWh annually, thus providing clean energy to around 350,000 households in Romania.
The generated wind energy is fed into the grid by the 400 kV electric station built by Verbund.
