Metes ( Nuclearelectrica): Units 3 and 4 in Cernavoda will not start working before 2019
Units 3 and 4 in Cernavoda will not be put to work before 2019 if they continue their building, and they would function for 40 years, Mircea Metes head engineer in the department for electricity trading in Nuclearelectrica said. “ We sincerely believe that there is interest and we could find investors who could take into consideration what is going to happen next. Units 3 and 4 if their construction starts, now being only 15% will not be put to function before 2019 and would function for 40 years. All estimates made by the European consultants show growths of prices in the long-term perspective, connected and the prices estimated in the European Union” said Metes.
According to him, the cost of construction of the two units, estimated at 4 billion euro was based on the evaluations made by several consultants at the level of 2003 – 2004 when the campaign started. “ It was an evaluation, probably, rougher than a different one made at a different moment. Now this cost is evaluated at 6.5 billion euro, the price with which it is evaluated at almost all the nuclear projects in the world” the Nuclearelectrica official said.
In the autumn of last year, the state secretary in the ministry of economy Rodin Traicu showed that China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group could ensure 40% of the necessary investment for the project of reactors 3 and 4 in Cernavoda. The investment in the two reactors in Cernavoda was estimated, recently at 6.4 billion euro, according to a study Ernst&Young.
