Canadian company discovers significant copper reserves in Rovina area, Hunedoara County
A Canadian company discovered significant copper and gold reserves in the northern part of Hunedoara County (western Romania), according to the estimations made by specialists the ore potential being of over 100 tonnes of gold and 100,000 tonnes of copper, Hunedoara County Prefect Sorin Vasilescu announced on Monday.
The ore is in an area limited by the communes of Buces, Bucuresci and Criscior, the ore exploitation being scheduled to begin in four years, on condition that all necessary approvals are obtained.
'It is about a quantity of over 100 tonnes of gold and of over 100,000 tonnes of copper. The exploitation will be conducted over 20 years, with investments estimated at between 850 million dollars and 1.2 billion dollars,' Prefect Sorin Vasilescu said.
According to him, following the development of this project about 2,000 jobs will be created, out of which 600 direct jobs, in the exploitation perimeter, and the rest in related services and in the horizontal industry.
The Prefect mentioned that the exploitation method does not use cyanides, as the ore extracted in open cuts and in the underground was going to be primarily processed through the flotation system. The resulted concentrate will be one of copper and gold.
Hunedoara County Prefect appreciated that the economic relations with the investors in Canada can also develop in the energy sector, through the creation of public-private partnerships. In this context, Vasilescu mentioned the thermal power plant at Mintia, which needed funding for modernizing the energy groups, and even for building a new energy group at the thermal power plant at Paroseni, both being part of Hunedoara Energy Complex.
