Iohannis: Romania will look for other opportunities to consolidate the energy independence

President Klaus Iohannis stated on last Thursday in Brussels when asked about the South Stream project that Romania will look for other opportunities to consolidate the energy independence and to interconnect to the European energy systems.

The president showed that the issue of South Stream was not discussed with the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and with the president of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and added that this is ‘a subject which has been closed for some time’.

The energy independence of Romania is one of my preoccupations and Romania will look for other opportunities to go on on the way of consolidating the energy independence on the one hand and to interconnect to the European energy systems, on the other hand’ Iohannis said, in the joint conference which was held with the president of the EC.

President Klaus Iohannis was on Thursday and Friday on an official visit to Brussels. The head of state had on Thursday meetings with the chairman of the European Council and the president of the European Commission and on Friday he had a meeting with the general secretary of NATO Jens Stoltenberg.
