In this sense, the American oil company believes that Romania could become independent energetically if the American company finds sufficient gas resources in the two areas in the country where they planned to drill, Constanta and Vaslui counties. “We consider that Romania has new gas resources, which are at a depth of two – four km in the shale structures. The present reserves of natural gas in Romania are for a period of 10 – 15 years, and it is normal to think of alternatives which could ensure the energy security of the country. Together with the development of the exploitation operations if viable resources are found”, stated on Wednesday the manager of the Chevron Romania Exploration and Production SRL Tom Holst.
The representatives of Chevron could not mention when the exploitation of share gas starts in Romania, at present the American company being the stage of obtaining the necessay agreements for starting the process of evaluation of the ores.
