Wizz Air to launch five new routes from Romania's Sibiu
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air said on Monday that it will launch in June five new routes from Romania's central city of Sibiu - to Copenhagen, Charleroi, Paris, Basel and Frankfurt, in June, seenews.com informs.
Wizz Air will fly from Sibiu to Copenhagen (Denmark), Charleroi (Belgium) and Paris (France) three times a week, the company said in a press release.
Flights to Basel in Switzerland and Frankfurt in Germany will be operated twice a week.
To support the increased number of routes, Wizz Air will allocate a second Airbus A320 to its Sibiu base in June next year.
This will take Wizz's total investment at Sibiu Airport to nearly $200 million ($167.5 million) and the number of direct employees to over 70.
At the beginning of the month, Wizz Air launched a new route from Romania's western city of Timisoara to Israel's Tel Aviv.
In mid-October, Wizz Air said it will start to fly to the Greek capital Athens from Romania's Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca and Moldova's Chisinau in March.
Wizz Air has over 750 employees in Romania and a fleet of 22 aircraft and has carried 30 million passengers on its low-fare routes from the country, since its very first flight in 2006. The company is currently offering over 143 routes to 56 destinations from 10 Romanian airports.
Wizz Air carried some 5.5 million passengers to and from Romania in 2016, up 23% on the year.
