TUI and ITS, two big travel agencies will withdraw from Romania
Two of the biggest world travel agencies, TUI and ITS intend to stop sending tourists to Romania, dissatisfied by the lack of promotion in the German market and Romania’s image abroad, deteriorated by the latest political situation.“The two groups intend to withdraw because promises made by MDRT have not been honoured. Among them there were promises for investments of 3 million euro to promote Romania in Germany in the next two years and nothing has been done,” sources from tourism told Mediafax agency.
In order to convince tour operators not to leave Romania, Cristian Barhalescu, secretary of state in MDRT went to Berlin to negotiate with them. Contacted by Mediafax, he said he went to Berlin to negotiate not only with TUI, but with all German tour operators.“I came to clarify plans for next year. They want us to get involved and for that we will have talks,” the secretary of state said.
In 2009 MDRT signed a contract with TUI valid as of 2010. In 2006 the German agency stopped bringing tourists in Romania and took out Romanian resorts from its promotion catalogs, dissatisfied with accommodation conditions, high prices, noise and dirty localities.
