Agriculture : Romania to halve wheat export in wake of drought, agriculture minister says
The droughty span will nearly halve the wheat quantity Romania will export this year, namely shipments will be cut to 1.3 million tons from 2 million tons it shipped in 2011, Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin announced at a news conference in central Sibiu on Friday.
'Estimates made so far show this year we'll export around 1.3 million tons out of 4.7 million tons of overall production. The last three years' average was 5.3 million tons (of total production - editor's note). This year's exports are much lower than last year', Constantin explained.
The minister added Romania last year shipped two million tons of wheat out of the six million tons it produced.
