Romania's wholesale trade turnover increased by 6.3 pct year-over-year in the first quarter, largely due to other products' specialised wholesale trade, but also trade in food products, tobacco and beverages, show official data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the quoted source, from January 1st to March 31, 2017, in the increase margin of the turnover in wholesale trade by 6.3 pct (except for the trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles), the specialised wholesale trade of other goods rose by 15.9 pct, unspecialized wholesale trade, by 1.5 pct, the wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco by 8 pct, the wholesale trade of other machines, equipment and supplies up 4.2 pct and wholesale trade for consumer goods, other than food, by 2.2 pct. On the other hand, there were also decreases in the wholesale trade of computer equipment and telecommunications (-2.3 pct), brokerage activities in wholesale trade (-2.2 pct) and wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-1.8 pct).

At the same time, by the series adjusted with the number of working days and seasonality, the turnover in wholesale trade went up by 6.2 pct in this year's first three months as compared to the same period last year, due to the rise of wholesale trade of other machines, equipment and supplies (+13 pct), other goods' specialised wholesale trade (+11.4 pct), unspecialized wholesale trade (+ 10.5 pct), wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (+ 7.6 pct), wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (+ 5.1 pct) and wholesale trade for consumer goods, other than food (+ 3.1 pct).
