Infrastructure : Croatia Airlines increases competition on the Romanian market, brings three weekly flights
As part of the plan to expand its European network, Croatia Airlines starts operating direct international flights from Bucharest to Zagreb, romaniajournal.ro reports. According to Kresimir Kucko, CEO of the Croatian national carrier, the service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays weekly.
Croatia Airlines will also have flights to Split, Pula, Dubrovnik and Zadar (all via Zagreb).
Once entering domestic market, the Croatian airline launches a promotional offer so that flights on the Zagreb to Bucharest route will start from EUR 149, while prices for the other routes start from EUR 179.
The flights between the two European capitals will take place during the summer period, May-October, Kresimir Kucko said on Monday in the press conference that followed the promotion flight on the Zagreb-Bucharest route, which brought 73 passengers to Henri Coanda International Airport.
“Optimism, hope and tourism indicators show that the number of Romanian tourists in Croatia has reached two digits in the last two years. I also believe that many Croatian citizens will discover the natural, historical and cultural beauties of Bucharest and of Romania in general,” CEO Croatia Airlines stated.
He expects travelers from other countries too, as Romania is the second largest market in South Eastern Europe.
Besides the Zagreb – Bucharest route, this year’s package offers direct flights from Zagreb to Stockholm, Helsinki and Oslo, which will make the airline to become a more powerful contributor to the tourism development in the Republic of Croatia.
CEO Croatian Airlines estimates 10,000 Romanian and Croatian passengers throughout the year 2017. Croatian Airlines will operate on Otopeni Airport with a Dash8-Q400 with 76 seats. The duration of a flight between Zagreb and Bucharest is one hour and 40 minutes.
In turn, Valentin Iordache, Foreign Affairs Director of Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB), revealed that the negociations with Croatia Airlines on operating at Henri Coanda Airport lasted 7-8 years.
