Trade : Survey: Three out of four Romanians prefer to give loved ones presents, than to receive
On Christmas, Romanians want to give presents to their loved ones rather than to receive, shows a survey on consumer behavior around the winter holidays, conducted by Reveal Marketing Research.
According to the survey, most women wish to receive clothing items on their winter holidays (19.6 percent), but also jewelry (15.4 percent). Men, however, want electronics (38.4 percent) and personal accessories (13.9 percent).
As far as the gifts they are thinking of offering to the loved ones are concerned, most people firstly think about toys for children (42.7 percent), while, women, in a quite high percentage, 49.6 percent, choose to give women's clothes. Women also offer toys, men's clothes, home decorations and jewelry. In men's gift list, there are women's clothes, men's clothes, electronics and personal accessories.
Concerning the expectations of Romanians on who will give them the best gift, men (62.5 percent) have predicted that their life partner will be this person, while women (32.3 percent) believe that the nicest gift will come from their children.
If they had 100 euros available for one single gift, men (49 percent) would choose to give it to their wife or girlfriend, while women (56.1 percent) would think of making their child or children happy.
'In terms of consumer behavior over the Christmas period, the Reveal Marketing Research survey uncovers an important point: we wish, as you see, to make gifts to loved ones more than to receive and Romanians are just waiting to make their loved ones happy on holidays. They want to spend more money on gifts, but are also considering buying something personal that they should enjoy,' Reveal Marketing Research General Manager Marius Luican said.
When asked 'Who you will go shopping with this year?', most urban area inhabitants have chosen their partner's company, but it has been noted that more women would prefer to also be accompanied by their children.
The analysis also reveals the fact that one of the two Romanians will offer themselves a present.
The survey was conducted through the CATI method (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews). The data collection was carried out from December 10 to 12, 2012, on a sample of 1,000 people, men and women, aged over 18, residents of urban areas. The calculated margin of error is + / - 3.1 percent.
