Trade : GfK: Romania's market for technical consumer goods advances 2pct in 2012, to 1.4 billion euros
Sales of digital photo cameras, smart phones and media tablets increased significantly in Romania in 2012, leading to a 2-percent increase in the country's market for technical consumer goods, worth 1.4 billion euros, according to findings of GfK Temax Romania.
Ten percent higher was the extra value recorded by the Romanian Technical Consumer Goods (TCG) market in the fourth quarter of 2012, putting the whole year on a positive path of 2-percent growth. Q4 2012 sales totalled 503 million euros, almost one third of the value reached at the yearly level - 1.4 billion euros.
Positive performance was brought about by photo, telecommunications, IT and consumer electronics sectors.
The best performing sector of the entire year was photo. With almost 11 percent increase year on year, the market reached a total of 49 million euros in 2012.
The digital still cameras market is also one of the markets with the highest share of promotional campaigns. The campaigns marked the seasonality of the market bringing solid high extra value in Q2 and Q4 of 2012.
Q4 sales were up almost 25 percent from the year before, totalling 16 million euros. Almost 7 million euros out of this goes to the D-SLR segment, which grew by double digit in Q4 2012
The total value of the mobile phone and smartphone market increased significantly by 24 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 when compared to the same period of the year before, having reached 75 million euros.
In the fourth quarter of 2012, the IT market managed an increase by 11 percent compared to the last quarter of 2011, reaching a value of 150 million euros.
In Q4 2012, sales in the consumer electronics sector rose by almost 10 percent, to 116 million euros.
According to data with GfK, the small domestic appliances sector recorded a 4 percent growth rate in Q4 2012 compared with the same quarter of the year before, ending a challenging 2012 with a total annual value of 106 million euros.
