Telecom.IT : Romanian games market hopeful of 20 pct turnover rise
The local videogames market hit 20 million euros in 2012 and estimates for this year see it growing 20 percent, said representatives of ComputerGames.ro, Romania's No. 1 games website.
According to a company release, the turnover of ComputerGames.ro was last year 1.8 million euros, threefold the 500,000 euros registered in 2011. Of the total figure, 90 percent comes from the sale of online games, while advertising on the ComputerGames.ro website - which received 727,447 unique visitors this December - produces the other 10 percent.
Much of the Romanians' spending on games goes for upgrade, tools and new features of free2play games and implicitly to foreign game producers.
The domestic market is currently divided into: sales for PC (85 percent), consoles (2-3 percent) and mobile devices (12-13 percent). The average amount a Romanian spends monthly for video games is 120 lei.
According to official data, Romania has about three million regular computer game players, of whom almost one million are specialists and 10,000 are pro-gamers. The majority of electronic game players are males aged between 14 and 40 years.
ComputerGames.ro is one of Romania's largest sites dedicated exclusively to gaming, offering the latest news, articles and downloads.
