Tourism : Tariff for holidays in Romania to stay unchanged, despite devaluation of national currency
The increase in the exchange rate does not affect the tariffs for holidays in Romania, reads a release of the Romanian Tourism Employers' Federation (FPTR).
'Even if the leu has devalued a great deal in the past weeks, the costs of the holidays in Romania will not be changed this summer, the way many people would expect,' said FPTR's vice-president Dragos Raducan.
Firstly, the contracts between travel agencies and hotel owners allow increase in tariffs only in special cases, and if 'a hotel owner wants to change the tariffs, he or she must notify the travel agency at least one month prior.'
Dragos Raducan added that since the summer season ends on September 15 'there is no more time to apply some possible increases resulted from the devaluation of the national currency against the euro.' He said that 'the wave of price increases for utilities and agri-food produce, generated by the rise in the euro, if there is one, will take place at mid-September, when most Romanians are not longer on holiday.'
The tourists that bought holidays in Romania through the Early Booking programme will not pay more because of the rise in the euro either. Those who bought early this year tourist packages for foreign destinations are at an advantage, as well. The FPTR analysis show they have saved money twice - due to the reductions of up to 40% through the Early Booking programme and also because there was an exchange rate difference of over 6% in the meantime.
