Tourism : Sibiu city present at Vienna Tourism Fair
The tourism destination city of Sibiu, the only city in Romania with three Michelin stars, will be present at the Vienna Tourism Fair where dozens of thousands of visitors are expected between January 10 and 13, along with hundreds of exhibitors from all around the world, announced mayor Klaus Iohannis on Thursday.
In the second day of fair in Vienna, the oldest and most famous dance folklore group in Romania, Junii Sibiului will entertain the tourism operators and the Austrians visiting Romania's stall.
Vienna Tourism Fair is at its 38th edition. Last year, 800 tourism operators from 70 countries displayed their services, with 150,000 visitors present.
Last year, Sibiu was present at the tourism fair in Austria, Germany and the UK. The mayoralty believes the number of tourists is higher in Sibiu, evidence that taxes from hotels went up last year. The peak of the tourist season in Sibiu is in the summer months, from June and August. The two info centres in Sibiu were visited b 26,000 tourists from 73 countries, most of whom were from Germany, more than 8,000, closely followed by Romanians.
From 2012, Sibiu is a tourism city awarded three Michelin stars, the only city in Romania with this prize.
Sibiu has an accommodation capacity of 4,000 places in 135 hotels, motels and B&Bs, along with 430 restaurants, pubs, bistros and winehouses.
